Top guide, great tourist site, reliable tour provider (exactly as described on the Internet), and even the flexibility for the driver to take a small detour so two of our party could be dropped off at a beach to do some snorkeling while the other two returned to the ship. This was a five-star tour at an extremely reasonable price (much cheaper than the ship option). We even had time to visit a small recently-excavated site a little off the beaten track which even Andrea had not seen before. It mean that basically we toured the extensive ruins on our own and Andrea had tons of time to share the huge amount of knowledge she has. We arrived after the three big cruise ship excursion buses but luckily those groups were held up by the lengthy line at the public bathrooms so we got a good 15-minute headstart. It is also very easily accessed along broad forest paths. Chacchoben is an outstanding site by any standard with much to see. She was a fund of information throughout the tour and an interesting person in her own right - she and her husband have a small hotel on the beach just along from the cruise ship port to supplement her guiding activities. We were taking a four-hour trip to the Chacchoben Mayan ruins and back with our guide Andrea, a young English-speaking German lady with a post-graduate degree in anthropology. We chose a private tour for just the four of us in our group - others were filling up mini buses - and that meant extra space and a bit of flexibility. Native Choice is a decent sized company located about 10 minutes walk from the ship, and quite a few other passengers opted for it too. What we learned about the ruins from him was heartfelt and fabulous. He couldn't have been more enthusiastic if he tried. Ivan, born, raised, lives, breathes and I know will always cherish his Mayan genealogy has so much knowledge. Andrea helped us understand and enjoy the Mayan family and their delicious lunch. She is not native to Mexico, speaks five languages, degreed in Mayan Archeology and is absolutly passionate about Mayan history and current culture. Andrea, one of our guides was delightful. These people are so passionate about their culture and the beautiful ruins, it is contagious. What we learned and experienced during the 5 hours we were on this tour will be with us forever. Our specific tour called "The Mayan Experience” was amazing. This was the smartest decision of the entire cruise. The reviews, descriptions and ease of the website gave me the confidence to book this tour and pay in advance. I read a few of the reviews and was sold but a bit hesitant to book "outside the cruise ship excursions box". I came upon The Native Choice tours by clicking here and there. We knew nothing about cruising, this part of Mexico, booking excursions etc.
